Did you know you can get gluten free pizza in Rapid City?
Beau Jo’s is located at 2520 West Main Street in Rapid City, in the same building as Haggerty’s Music. It is a great pizza place with a huge menu both gluten free and regular. We’d been craving pizza since we decided to trim gluten out of our diet and we found some great pizza.
The pizza is loaded with toppings. The crust is light and tasty. It was exactly what I wanted. They even have gluten free beer, if you are looking for some suds to go with your pizza pie.
The flavors we tried:
Gluten Free Yukon. (on the left in the picture above) Loaded with pizza sauce, Canadian bacon, artichoke hearts, roma tomatoes and both provolone and mozzarella cheese.
Gluten Free Sausage Combo. (on the right in the picture above) Has pizza sause, pepperoni, Italian sausage, green peppers, red onions, mushrooms and mozzerella cheese.
They have so many more flavors I’d like to try like the Pacific Plantation and the Mama Mia.
Have you eaten at Bea Jo’s yet?

Prairie Berry is the first place I’d ever had a South Dakota made wine. Ever since then I love to pick up some Prairie Berry wine whenever I’m near Hill City.
The really neat thing about their wines is that they incorporate many of South Dakota’s native fruits and berries into the wine. This makes for some really unique wines, with a South Dakota flavor. Wine made in the area, from the fruits of the area.
Some of my favorite Prairie Berry Wines
- Wild Plum Fusion – A semi-dry blush wine made with wild plums and Riesling grapes
- Pheasant Reserve – Dry red wine. Mix of chokecherry wine and Cabernet Sauvignon.
- Red Ass Rhubarb – Rhubarb and raspberry wine. A Thanksgiving tradition in our house.
- Lawrence Elk – Black Currant with a piney aroma, this is very unique and tasty.
Try before you buy
You can taste up to five wines for free. I love that I can taste some of the sweeter wines I wouldn’t normally buy. That is how I found I really enjoy the Lawrence Elk.
How do you get there?
Prairie Berry is located 3 miles northeast of Hill City on Hwy 16/385. Here is their map.
Other attractions in the Hill City area
I you want to visit another winery, check out Stone Faces Winery it is just down the road from Prairie Berry.
Hill City is home to the Alpine Inn. I just love to eat at the Alpine Inn, they served a German menu at lunch and filet mignon in the evening. Their dessert menu is available at both meals and worth saving room for.
Have you tried the wine from Prairie Berry? What is your favorite?

Deadwood has a great wine tasting room right on Main Street. It is located at 594 Main St, just across from the Mineral Place. There are tables outside that provide the perfect place to watch people go by while you enjoy your glass of wine
About the winery
It was started in 2000 by the Jackson family near Belle Fourche SD. In 2007, they added twenty more acres of grapes to ensure the future of their wines. Visit their website for more information.
The wines
- St Cab – a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and South Dakota St. Croix
- Mon Cherry – Cherry dessert wine, that taste amazing
- Frontenac Reserve – Fruit tasting with essence of strawberry
- Dakota Breeze – a light semi-dry white wine
- La’ Lure – Semi-sweet Riesling
- Days of 76 – A blend of Cabernet sauvignon and St. Croix
Black Hills Wineries
I just love that we seem to be getting more and more wineries in the area. Schade has a tasting room in Deadwood too. In the Hill City area be sure to visit Prairie Berry and Stone Faces Winery.
